Husband-wife duo turns their passion into Austin Modern Properties.

By Kat Zeman

Adam and Amy Mosier have built many homes together. Like a power couple, the husband-wife duo has a shared passion for the same craft. She knows design, marketing and has a keen eye for real estate investments. He’s interested in engineering and building. Together, they make up Austin Modern Properties, a Texas-based custom luxury homebuilder.

“We jumped in with both feet,” Adam Mosier says. “I’m the bricks and sticks side of things and Amy makes it all look pretty.”

Founded in 2015, the company is still young and smaller-scale. But the couple likes it that way. Focusing on quality austinmodernand details, Austin Modern Properties builds between eight and 10 custom homes per year.

“Much more important than the number of homes we build each year is the quality that goes into those homes,” Amy Mosier says. “Our top priority is to design and construct a home that reflects the utmost care and attention to detail that goes into each and every project. We build each home as if we were building it for ourselves.”

Austin Modern Properties specializes in custom homes, spec homes and urban infill development projects in and around central and south Austin’s urban neighborhoods. The company has been focused on building homes close to Austin’s downtown that range in price from $350,000 to $2 million.

“We like higher-end construction with higher-quality materials,” Adam Mosier says. “We want to be known as a higher level builder.”

Green is Good

Valuing intelligent composition and sound construction, Amy and Adam Mosier take pride in building homes to Austin Energy Green Building standards to achieve a minimum of a 4-star rating. “The materials we use help provide a highly efficient home that in turn helps reduce greenhouse gases,” Adam Mosier says.

The company uses spray foam insulation as opposed to fiberglass. It is know for creating a powerful airtight seal that has been shown to be 24 times less permeable to air infiltration than fiberglass and other types of insulation.

Austin Modern Properties also builds 2X6 exterior walls (compared to the common 2X4 thickness) that allows for more insulation. In addition, it installs high-efficiency HVAC systems and energy-efficient windows.

Being Modern

As its name suggests, Austin Modern Properties focuses on a modernized style of building. It specializes in three styles: mid-century modern, modern farmhouse and traditional modern. “The design of the home depends on the preference of our client as well as the aesthetic of the neighborhood,” Amy Mosier says. “The common thread throughout all of our homes is that we maintain warmth, functionality and fluidity in a modern design. That includes clean lines, high ceilings, tons of natural light and energy efficient living.”

The Mosiers say the trend in home design, especially in central Austin, is practical and adaptable use of space and lots of indoor-outdoor living space. Their clients are requesting open decks and patios and multi-use flex space. “Many of our home buyers are not necessarily looking for larger homes,” Amy Mosier adds. “They are looking for more intelligent use of smaller square footage that’s close to the center of town.”

Giving Back

Austin Modern Properties believes in giving back to the communities it serves. Amy Mosier, a breast cancer survivor, is active with the Susan G. Komen Austin, a nonprofit organization that hosts annual events to fight breast cancer.

“After I was diagnosed, I started my own team for the 5K race,” she says. “I’ve been active with Komen Austin on many levels, raising over $35,000 through Race for the Cure and the annual gala. I also volunteered on the fundraising committee for Race for the Cure 2015 and was the 2016 co-chair for the 5th annual fundraising gala, Mad About Pink.”

In addition, the company regularly contributes to KLRU Austin, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Operation Turkey and Power for Parkinson's. Austin Modern Properties is also a member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin, Texas Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders.
