Willco Homes tackles a single-family custom home project in Oklahoma City.

By Kat Zeman, Senior Editor at Knighthouse Media

Quality craftsmanship and personalized attention to detail is the foundation on which Sheryl Willingham founded her company. She called it Willco Homes, a name partially derived from her own name. At first, Willingham thought that she would build one to two homes per year. But after a few years, Edmond, Okla.-based Willco Homes quickly developed a reputation for high-end custom homebuilding and established a loyal following.

“One thing led to another and I never looked back,” Willingham says. “Jesus has blessed me with good people and a great opportunity.” Willingham, who has always been an artistic personality with a passion for design, now reigns over a successful design/build firm that focuses on “building homes beyond your wildest dreams” that reflect discerning tastes and individual personalities.

“We never build the same house twice,” Willingham says. “We are a true custom home builder. By that, I mean you not only pick your tile color and granite type but every little detail down to the color of hinges on your doors.”

Heart Of Downtown

One of Willco Homes’ recently completed projects is a home in downtown Oklahoma City, which is a part of the company’s larger downtown single-family home development. Located in the heart of downtown, the three-story 3,250-square-foot home was featured in the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association Parade of Homes last year.

Although Willingham views all of her projects as special, this one was close to her heart. “I built it for my daughter,” she says. “I wanted to keep her in Oklahoma and give her a reason to stay.” Willingham describes the home as being modern industrial. It features exposed ductwork and steel beams, clean lines, concrete floors and an open floor plan.

“We were going for that retro industrial vibe with unique materials,” she adds. “With the open and functional space, you do not feel like you are in downtown Oklahoma City until you look out the window.” Her daughter’s home is the first one to be built in this downtown development project.WillcoBOX

Willco Homes plans to build seven other spec homes within the next three to five years as a part of this project. “It’s a fast-growing area in the heart of downtown,” Willingham says. “Single-family housing is hard to find in this area and it’s hard to be creative with a 20’ by 60’ building. I feel like our designs are unique because they have functional flow, room for storage and closet space that are unusual for this area. But we embrace the challenge.”

The homes will range between 2,500 and 3,500 square feet and cost between $875,000 and $2 million. Outside architecture will have an “old-warehouse feel” with a lot of brick to keep with the downtown vibe. “They will all be different, but there will be some similarities,” Willingham adds. “They will all share a level of quality and functionality.”

Willco Homes prides itself on honesty and integrity. Its focus on quality work and special attention to even the smallest detail are paramount to bringing its clients wishes to reality. “I believe the attention to detail is one of the things we do best,” Willingham says.
