When some homebuilders open their doors, they are forced to build in upper-end neighborhoods due to lot availability. Homes By Taber was able to go in the opposite direction, Owner Taber Leblanc says.

Based in Oklahoma City, Homes By Taber constructs affordable homes throughout its home state. Leblanc started the business in 2000, after working for an insurance company. Thanks to his job, “I had some construction knowledge from being an insurance adjuster working water, fire and hail claims,” he recalls.

George Goodwyn Jr., president of Goodwyn Building Co. Inc., states that his mission is to design, build and sell new homes that will retain and gain value for their homeowners. “It is our responsibility to efficiently and purposefully utilize the God-given talent of skilled carpenters, laborers and subcontractors to build the highest-quality home for the least amount of money and to perform our tasks in a way that is pleasing to God,” Goodwyn maintains.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Goodwyn homes are built to last. The company strives to make its homes energy-efficient enough that they will obtain the lowest-possible power bill. Goodwyn Building Co. Inc. says it builds more Energy Star-approved homes than any other builder in the Montgomery, Ala., area.

Anyone who has ever done it will confirm that there are few things as satisfying as building a house with your own hands. That’s why Glenn Foster and his son Richard left behind successful careers in the healthcare and financial sectors to form Foster Signature Homes in 2006. Today, Foster Signature Homes is one of the most sought-after and successful builders of custom homes in the Oklahoma City metropolitan market, and Richard Foster says that is due to the fact that the company refuses to cut corners no matter what price point it builds in, as well as its ability to work closely with customers in a way that makes them feel comfortable. 

F C Batton and Son Inc. has already demonstrated a knack for longevity, having provided service to the Baltimore area since 1902. Today, President Rick Batton and Vice President Kyle Batton are the fourth and fifth generations, respectively, of the Batton family to operate a company started by Rick Batton’s great-grandfather.

Leaving the homebuilding business was never an option for Homes By Dickerson’s executives and staff, even during the worst point of the national housing market crash in 2008-2009. 

“During the recession, we told ourselves that we weren’t going to wake up tomorrow and suddenly be surgeons or dentists. We’re passionate about homebuilding and wanted to be in this space,” says Jon Showalter, vice president of operations for the Raleigh, N.C.-based  homebuilder. 

Although there is much more to do at Diamante Cabo San Lucas than play golf, the Dunes golf course at the resort – designed by Davis Love III – and the new El Cardonal golf course – the first to be designed and opened by Tiger Woods and his company, Tiger Woods Design (TWD) – are major attractions.

Work is continuing at a rapid pace. Ongoing construction activities include: eight golf villas; the El Cardonal clubhouse; and the first phase of its Resort Towers hotel. This consists of a six-story tower with two four-bedroom penthouse units, seven four-bedroom suites, an attached three-story low-rise with 14 two-bedroom units, six additional two-bedroom units and two four-bedroom bungalows that front an existing 10-acre lagoon at the resort.

Based in Branford, Conn., My CT Dream Home specializes in building award-winning luxury homes and communities. Massimino started the company in 2004 with his brothers, Michael and Anthony. “Our father was a carpenter, so we were always involved in new construction,” Mario Massimino states.

Capstone Homes’ management has built the company in a manner similar to the way it builds its homes – methodically and with a solid foundation. “We’ve had steady growth in our eight years of business, and have had the chance to work out the kinks in our production,” says Scott Dailey, managing partner and co-founder of the Lewes, Del.-based homebuilder. “We’re focused on delivering great products, and as word continues to spread that our homes are great, we will be able to build the company for the long haul.”
